A workshop
with two fitters.
We started in 2011 making cabinets for other kitchen companies and stopped in 2016, because watching good cabinetry fitted badly by somebody else is a bad way to spend a career.
There is a workshop of four, a designer, and two fitters. The fitters run one kitchen at a time. That is the entire reason our lead time is longer than the showroom that can start next week, and the entire reason the same two faces are there on the last day.
We talk roughly a third of clients out of the island they arrived wanting. It is a short conversation with a tape measure in it, and it is a better outcome for both of us than a room you have to edge around for fifteen years.
They watched me cook for twenty minutes and then told me the island I wanted would make it worse. They were right, and the L-shape they drew instead is the best room in the house.
Two fitters, the same two, for the whole fortnight. After the last kitchen we had, where a different face turned up every day, that alone was worth the money.
The worktop meets the wall without a gap anywhere along four metres. I did not know that was possible.
